Field Trip!

This week our art classes spent Tuesday evening doing something a little different from our norm – FIELD TRIP! Rather than create art, we spent the evening enjoying art, specifically, the Romare Bearden Southern Collections exhibit. Excited to focus attentions on a local artist, (Bearden is a Charlotte native!), our art teachers spent the weeks leading up to this trip educating our students on the works of Mr. Bearden. Even our elementary artists are fully involved in the action – I mean, who doesn’t love collage?

We live in a city full of amazing opportunities to view and appreciate the fine arts. From professional dance companies to visual art museums to theatric and musical performances, it’s crazy NOT to take advantage of what the Queen City has to offer!

Too much for one post…

The problem with letting a month pass since our last update, is now, there’s just too much going on to squeeze into one post!

First, a quick recap. Our fall semester is off to a spectacular start! We have classes bursting at the seams, new students joining weekly, and an October calendar full of fun!

This past Saturday, we kicked October off right at the Lake Park Fall Festival, where our dancers gave the community a taste of what Masterpiece Studios is all about. And the student artwork on display drew more than a few complimentary glances – we have some truly talented artists. It is our Joy (and that is Joy – with a capital J!) to have the opportunity for our dancers and visual artists to use their gifts and talents to bless our community and glorify our God! What an awesome day!

Take, Take, Take It All!

On the horizon, we have two exciting happenings next week – our very first fall field trip to the Mint Museum & a fun six-week workshop, Discovering Science Through Art. Both of these events are worthy of their own post, so more on those to come!

Back to Business!

Labor Day means something a little different to everyone. The unofficial end of summer. The closing of the neighborhood pool. A long weekend. A day off of work.

Here at Masterpiece Studios, Labor Day means the calm before the storm – because it’s time for us to get back to business! Each year, our dance & art classes begin the Tuesday after Labor Day. We rest up over the long weekend, because we know the week ahead is going to be a whirlwind!

This year was no different. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday brought a mix of old and new faces, all with fresh excitement. And we LOVE everything about the first week of classes! Frilly ballet skirts ready to twirl. Tap shoes ready to go tippity-tap across the hardwood floor. Sketch books ready for that first swipe of a freshly sharpened pencil. Blank canvases brought to life by the first stroke of a new paintbrush. Ahhhhh…these are a few of our favorite things!

And then the next Monday rolls around, and we’re ready to do it all again!

Saying Goodbye to Summer

With temperatures soaring in the high nineties, it’s hard to believe it’s almost time to say goodbye to summer. The calendar may say we have another month before fall, but check your local Wal-Mart for the real story…the school year is upon us!

New school supplies, new clothes, new teachers, new friends – there’s a lot of excitement this time of year, and at Masterpiece Studios, we’re looking at the weeks ahead with great anticipation as well! New ballet slippers, new leotards, new paints, new canvases. New friends…and old friends, too!

Summer Camp Spotlight

Kamp Kindness, July 18-22 ~ 9am – 12pm ~ Ages 7-11.

We’ll spend the week serving our community through various projects & activities designed to educate children on community outreach in a fun, interactive environment. Local non-profits will benefit from your child’s gift of time and compassion!
